Ground-breaking ideas at the Green Alley Award 2023
At this year’s Green Alley Award in Berlin, experts and entrepreneurs met with key industry leaders to discuss how to create a business in the circular economy and develop it in a sustainable way.
“We connected with real experts who not only understand our challenges, but also those of our customers. So, using their feedback will really help us to improve our value proposition,” said Mathijs Kuil, Business Developer at Veridis, one of the Green Alley Award finalists 2023.
Together with five other startups from all around Europe, Mathijs participated in expert sessions before the evening event in Berlin.
Business leaders also revealed how important it is for companies to be up-to-date with the latest trends and to foster a community within the circular economy.
Yamit Naftali, director of Strategy and Business Development at HomeBiogas, said: “I like to work with startups to bring innovation and circularity within the industry, while learning about new solutions, and connect them to the right supplier and producers in order to facilitate the transfer into the circular economy.”
During the evening, the six finalists pitched their business ideas and inspired the whole audience with different and vibrant topics ranging from sustainable fashion, new packaging materials and WEEE solutions to plastic pollution in the Global South and plastic analysis technology.
Who was the glorious winner who most convinced the jury and took home the prize?
S.Lab from Ukraine!
The startup has developed an innovative alternative to polystyrene (EPS) packaging material which is made of only two components: mycelium roots and hemp stems from agricultural waste.
Another special feature of their business idea is that they plan to build small factories – with a closed-loop automated production line in 40-foot containers – to produce their packaging on a global scale.
