Landbell Group and SABIC strengthen partnership
Landbell Group and SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, have signed a long-term cooperation agreement. The two companies will combine their expertise to establish and develop more closed loop systems for plastic packaging.
The two companies first started working on a joint solution for the circular economy in 2020.
In 2022, mixed plastic waste collected by Landbell was used by SABIC to produce certified polypropylene (PP) for Mars. The new collaboration will build on that pioneering project.
Landbell and SABIC now aim to encourage other branded goods manufacturers, and plastics and packaging converters, to integrate closed-loop solutions made from recycled post-consumer plastic into their product applications.
By involving downstream value chain partners, the two companies aim to demonstrate that circular projects have the potential to retain the value of used plastics and return them to new material streams.
Under the new collaboration, Landbell will supply mixed plastic packaging waste from household collections.
The waste, which is prepared for recycling through further sorting and cleaning processes, can then be recycled and used by SABIC as raw material instead of virgin feedstock in the production process.
The resulting polymers can be used for applications such as food contact packaging and other high-quality applications.
More information about these recycling solutions can be found here.
