New version of catalogue for packaging subject to scheme participation on the way in Germany

7 June 2022

Germany’s packaging body, the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZVSR), is currently updating the scheme participation requirement catalogue, which defines whether certain packaging needs to be licensed with a packaging scheme. The catalogue, which is updated regularly, specifies the obligations of the country’s packaging law, and allows producers to determine the scheme participation requirement of their packaging. Stakeholders had the opportunity to comment on the planned changes in a public consultation that ran from 21 April to 19 May. The updated version of the catalogue is to be published this summer. According to the packaging law, producers of retail or grouped packaging filled with goods, which typically ends up as waste with a private final consumer after use, must license this packaging with a packaging scheme such as Landbell. The scheme then takes care of the proper collection and treatment of the packaging. For more information and support in Germany, please contact us.
