German packaging law introduces new registration obligation – here’s how we can help
From 1 July 2022, all producers who place packaging filled with goods on the market in Germany must be registered in the LUCID packaging register. This provision stems from the country’s packaging law which was amended last year.
The registration obligation applies not only to manufacturers of packaging subject to scheme participation (for example, sales packaging that typically ends up as waste with the end consumer after use), but also to packaging not subject to scheme participation (for example, transport packaging or single-use beverage packaging subject to the deposit obligation).
The registration process started on 5 May 2022.
In addition to the new registration obligation, extensive information, documentation and self-organisation obligations for distributors of packaging that is not subject to scheme participation now apply since 3 July 2021.
