Landbell Group and PureCycle to expand polypropylene recycling in Europe
Landbell Group has announced a new collaboration with PureCycle Technologies Inc. to advance the recycling of polypropylene (PP) plastic across Europe.
The partnership aims to support the development of high-purity, recycled PP for use in high-value and technically demanding applications, such as food packaging, industrial goods and consumer products.
The partnership builds on joint efforts initiated in early 2024 between Landbell Group and PureCycle Belgium.
As part of the collaboration, Landbell Group will leverage its established expertise in the collection, sorting and processing of post-consumer plastics across multiple European countries.
Household PP waste collected through Landbell Group’s producer responsibility organisations will be provided as feedstock for PureCycle’s first European recycling facility in Antwerp, Belgium, which is expected to reach an annual capacity of 59,000 tonnes once operational.
PureCycle’s technology uses a multi-step dissolution recycling process to transform PP waste into a high-quality recyclate known as PureFive™, which offers performance comparable to virgin plastic and can be reused multiple times.
PureCycle’s flagship plant in Ohio, USA has already successfully implemented the process.
This collaboration marks a further step in Landbell Group’s efforts to close material loops and strengthen the supply of high-quality recyclates in line with the objectives of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
By redirecting PP waste into high-grade applications, the partnership also supports the creation of a more robust circular economy for plastics in Europe.
