Upcoming EPR deadlines and obligations

2 September 2025

Several environmental compliance deadlines that may be relevant to your business are coming up in Canada.

Federal Plastics Registry (FPR)

29 September 2025 is the deadline for submitting the report to Canada’s Federal Plastics Registry (FPR).

This reporting is like extended producer responsibility (EPR) reports, but is not the same.

Canadian companies which are considered producers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), packaging (filled and unfilled), and single-use (or disposable) packaging that will likely end up in a household/residential waste stream will need to report on every type of plastic in a product and/or packaging.

Please see the detailed article previously published on H2 Compliance’s website.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

Companies, whether registered in Canada or not, which are considered producers of packaging or paper products that will end up with consumers, need to take part in and finance the operation of the provincial EPR programs.

Provincial EPR regulations include all packaging materials (plastic, paper, glass, etc.) in their scope, although a more granular overview shows some differences between subcategories of the packaging materials.

The deadline for 2025 reporting was 31 May 2025 for all provinces – except for Quebec, where the deadline was 25 August 2025.
