CLP: EU authorities inspecting hazardous mixtures throughout 2026
Throughout 2026, the national enforcement authorities of the EU Member States will be checking the compliance of various products with the requirements under the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.
Inspectors will check various consumer and professional products that are available on the market and that are known to contain hazardous mixtures.

REACH: EU customs Y-Codes
The European Commission has committed to improving compliance of imported goods with REACH and CLP obligations with the aid of customs authorities.
Some of the REACH Regulation requirements have been integrated into the EU customs procedures.
Thus far, the substances included in the REACH Authorisation list (Annex XIV) and the REACH Restrictions list (Annex XVII) have been integrated into the TARIC (Integrated Tariff of the European Union) database.
Companies that import an Annex XIV or Annex XVII substance should use an appropriate dedicated ‘Y-Code’ in their customs declarations to demonstrate compliance or eligibility for an exemption.
Read more about the dedicated codes in H2 Compliance’s article.
While the Y-Codes have been in existence for a while, the requirements remain complicated for the industry.
This has also been mentioned in the recent (December 2025) Enforcement of Compliance of Imported Substances, Mixtures and Articles project report, which will be covered in more detail in the next issue of Compass.
