Enhanced EPR support for packaging in Denmark

5 November 2024

Extended producer responsibility (EPR) helps finance the infrastructure for collection and recycling of waste.

So why is this fantastic tool not used everywhere?

Well, step by step, it is coming to all countries and for new waste streams.

Denmark may be one of the last countries in the EU to implement EPR for packaging, but, at the end of August, companies faced a deadline.

As a first step they needed to register with a producer responsibility organisation (European Recycling Platform – Denmark) and report their estimated packaging volumes for 2024.

Our Danish team – Lars Bruntse, Lisbeth Hoelgaard and Torben Frahm have been quick to provide a response:

  • 300 webinars and online company presentations have been held.
  • 800 (and counting…) companies have chosen ERP Denmark as a PRO.

As this is a new obligation in Denmark producers need:

  • transparent communication on their obligations and
  • step-by-step solutions for reducing their complexity and uncertainty.

They’re also getting a little bit of help from their friends in Landbell Group: Landbell Deutschland and European Recycling Platform (ERP) are informing international producers and have set up a Click & Comply online store for easy registration and reporting.

It shows that EPR is always set up locally but needs a global effort to be truly successful.

Local, targeted activities + dedicated Group effort + digital tool development = enhanced EPR support
