The primary focus of the H2 Chemical Team has been on Chemical Regulatory Support, specifically for all aspects of REACH (1907/2006). The company has also expanded to providing regulatory support around global chemical control and stewardship laws and GHS implementations through in-house expertise and partnership arrangements. H2’s Environmental Compliance Team provides support for extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation, and has built programs for restricted substances and product stewardship.
Your responsibilities
As a Product Steward you support the development and delivery of a variety of regulatory and technical programs that are assigned with a focus on product compliance and sustainability. This is a position for a driven, high-energy individual to assist colleagues and clients by applying their knowledge of product stewardship, banned and restricted substances, supplier communication and chemical compliance. Recently H2 Compliance is seeing an increased trend in companies recognising the need to move towards a sustainable chemical management program to address the increasing global regulatory landscape that proactively addresses the requirements of placing of substances/products on the global market.
The position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced regulatory professional in a growing technical team with an international client portfolio. The ideal candidate will excel at interacting with multinational clients in a technical and product focused capacity and directly manage the relationship with a variety of clients, providing high level technical and stewardship consultancy services to clients while helping to grow and drive the business and its strategy.
Under normal conditions the expectation is for 5-10% travel annually – mainly domestic and international 2-4 times per year. The position will be home based, with the expectation that the candidate will be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours.
- Management and technical delivery of H2 Compliance’s portfolio of regulatory projects, mainly focused on product compliance and stewardship activities:
- Leading the development of tailored consulting projects related to chemical stewardship and product compliance.
- Acting as CRM for several key clients, assist them in their compliance activities and provide strategic advice.
- Providing client support on the presence and impact of restricted substances (e.g., ROHS, SCIP, SVHC, restrictions, substances of concern) in the products that they place on the market, with additional support for alternatives assessment.
- Engaging with external suppliers to support clients on restricted substance assessments and compliance statements
- Work within a team of professionals to deliver a robust global product safety program, complete chemical or product assessment, support restricted substance lists development and restricted substances management programs, and drive value for a diverse portfolio of products across a variety of clients.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of tools, databases, and processes for product safety information management and substance tracking to promote early identification of product risks and solutions as part of our element1™ software-as-a-service offering.
- Provide technical leadership and support in the areas of substance tracking, and measuring product risk profiles, product compliance certifications, product carbon footprint, sustainable design, identification of more sustainable raw material or alternative assessments, and continuous improvement in product sustainability and safety.
- As client portfolio requires, assist with and/or manage global chemical registration and chemical management and assess impact on client’s products and projects.
- Liaise with the other members of the technical team and support the organisation on chemical and product stewardship.
- Maintain awareness of international regulatory requirements and market dynamics as it pertains to product stewardship.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with a select number of clients to ensure on-time delivery of work in a proficient manner.
- Contribute to business development efforts within the North American market via development of new technical services for the H2 Compliance portfolio and participation in marketing and sales efforts, as needed.
- Actively support and demonstrate the Company’s vision, guiding principles and objectives.
Your qualifications
- Public health, chemistry, engineering, or related field (toxicology, industrial hygiene, etc.) primary and/or secondary degree highly preferred.
- > 5 years of experience within a product stewardship role, with a focus in two or more of the following areas: restricted substances management, alternatives assessment, green chemistry, product stewardship systems and design, chemical control regulations, articles/product regulations, product safety, product sustainability, carbon footprinting, life-cycle assessment.
- Certification (CPPS) or working towards certification is highly preferred.
- Subject matter expertise in product stewardship and sustainability, with experience with restricted substances management and/or alternatives assessment is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of product stewardship tools and regulatory submission tools, such as the SCIP database, IUCLID, REACH-IT, SDS authoring platforms, etc., is highly preferred.
- Ability to analyze, understand, and research regulatory information, data, and issues.
- A proven record of working independently on multiple projects where the communication and decision-making process is crucial, is required.
- Highly organized and willing to take responsibility for client solutions.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with all Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
- An excellent communicator in written and spoken English.
